The Northman (2022)
American epic historical action thriller "The Northman" was released in 2022. The film follows the adventures of Prince Amleth, whose evil uncle kills his parents and kidnaps his mother. He encounters twists along the way, which reveal a disturbing family secret.
Directed by | Robert Eggers |
Based on | The legend of Amleth by Saxo Grammaticus |
Starring | Alexander Skarsgård, Björk, Gustav Lindh, Claes Bang, Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicole Kidman |
Distributed by | Focus Features (United States) |
Release Date | April 22, 2022 (United States) |
Running time | 136 minutes |
Country | United States |
Language | English |
Available at | Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, ROW8, Peacock, Vudu, Hulu, Redbox, Roku device |
Is the Northman a worthwhile watch?
"The Northman", is Robert Eggers' biggest, most elaborate (and most expensive), and best-ever film. It's a frequently breathtaking visual feast and a fascinating look at Eggers' instincts as a choreographer of deadly action as well as historical detail.
Did the Northmen flop?
Robert Eggers' epic novel, The Northman, did poorly at the box office after its April release. The historical epic grossed only $68 million worldwide, well below its production budget.
Why is Northman a critics' favorite?
Northman is far from a family-friendly, upbeat film as its plot revolves around family revenge and never strays far from the brutal reality of its time. It benefits the film by giving a sense of the most glamorous kind of carnage.
Why is Northman a masterpiece?
The Northman is Eggers' best picture to date and a terrifying masterpiece of revenge. Eggers' masterful blend of traditional character-driven storytelling and vivid, evocative atmosphere create a magnificent thrill ride not to be missed.
Is "The Northman" a good movie on Reddit?
This movie is amazing; It's like watching a grand Norse myth come to life. With such strong characters, gods, and old tropes galore, this is a deftly handled revenge drama. The writing style is Shakespearean and lyrical, poetic, and violent.
Why should I watch this 2022 adventure/action "The Northman"?
One of the best Viking movies ever made. The old Danish saga of Prince "Amleth" was the inspiration for William Shakespeare's "Hamlet". If you're a fan of Netflix and Disney's politically correct and neutered current media, this movie isn't for you; Exit the theater immediately.
Only the right audience, who understand the full depth of glory, should watch this film. Alexander Skarsgård and Robert Eggers' films will live on for a long time. They could have stretched the film and given the characters a bit more development, but it would have lost the dreamlike quality that Eggers' films are known for. 5 stars!

The comic book, "300" draws inspiration from the actual Battle of Thermopylae and events in Ancient Greece in 480 BC. On an epic historical event, this is an Epic film.
Why is 300 a good movie?
300 uses their slow-motion so effectively that it's amazing. The action is well-choreographed and it is very easy to follow. On a visual scale, it's amazing. Even though actors chew their scenes, and no one chews their scenes more than Gerard Butler, I find him funny.
Did the Spartans ever surrender?
It is often said that the Spartan warriors never backed down and never surrendered. They would fight to the death under any circumstances, and they were trained to do so from an early age.
Is 300 suitable for kids?
Ancient War Movies List - Apple TV |
Heads rolled, blood splattered, and exotic animals were cut and speared. Many, many soldiers on both sides die horrifyingly. If on-screen death and war — even something so stylish and cartoonish at times — is making a subject matter too disturbing for your kids, this bloodbath isn't a safe bet.
Is the movie "300" worth watching?
This film is the most orgasmic film of all time. I avoided watching this movie for 12 years because the clip made it so catchy and I was right. My first introduction to the Spartans and the Battle of Thermopylae was from the book "The Gates of Fire" and I enjoyed the story of the war and the second Persian invasion of Greece.

It's a good movie, but it deals with a race of mighty godlike beings that never really gives a good backstory on them so you can relate to them in any way, they're just theirs, you don't know that Like them or not or hate them, this is always the problem with these Olympian gods. When they are brought to the big screen, the filmmakers think it's Jesus! They know what's up! Thanks to the good actors and special effects, the movie was fine but that's about it.

Is Troy worth seeing?
Some famous lines and scenes...I loved this movie! The war in the name of love ... or as it seems, Paris ignites a confrontation between the mythical Achilles and Hector, and between the Greeks and Troy. Mostly has great acting and some catchy fight scenes as well as fights. I liked Pitt's portrayal of Achilles....whose physique has some moral ambiguity as well that runs throughout. "We don't need to control him... we need to set him free," a fine line that reflects the strategy employed by the Greeks to use Achilles.
On the other side is another leader, Hector, who, like Achilles, has views that do not correspond to each other...he questions the purpose and representation of the gods. The gods will not save him or protect him.... only his sword and his men can be counted. Overall great film with some deep existentialism woven into it!

Sam Worthington is also a worthy Perseus. Not sure about Liam Neeson as Jesus - when he was in a scene I kept closing my eyes and my mind went straight to Taken! But overall thumbs up. 😎

I saw this movie at home in California USA during my day's asylum, it's a well-portrayed drama. There are thrilling scenes in the walk from the beginning, and I could not dare to leave in the middle. Full marks to the actors, director, and production team.
