Sitcoms revolving around families and friends are quite common. There were very few attempts made to bring something different to the table. The fun family and friend's themes are mostly limited to regular sitcoms. But Family Guy attempted to change this trend. The family includes Dad, Mom, Lois, and two other teens Meg and Chris including a toddler Stewie, and an adorable dog Brian.
Brian is rightly defined as the adorable dog for its cute actions. The dog is portrayed as smart as the humans on the show. Ever since it’s inception, Brian’s character has been equally adored along with all other characters.
Just to satisfy the urge to know more about the character Brian, let’s delve into the article to learn about him:
- The creators will have a favorite character in their creations. Brian has bagged the title of “Creator’s favorite character”. Brian Griffin, as the full name goes, is Seth MacFarlane’s favorite character on the show. He even posted a picture of the fictional character on his office door. That shows his love for the character.
- MacFarlane has lent his voice to most of the characters on the show including Peter Griffin, Glenn Quagmire, and Stewie Griffin. But he modifies his voice for all of them. The only character for which he uses his original voice was Brian.
- It is scary to have a dog that drives the car. Voila! The Family Guy has it though. Brian roams the town all by himself in a Toyota Prius of 2004 style. The sight of watching the dog drive the car is both funny and adorable to see. The dog first drives the car in season seven in an episode titled “The Juice Is Loose.” Stewie gets stuck on the roof and Brian suddenly makes his appearance to save him. Even the nameplate is funny. It reads “BRI-DOG.” From the seventh season, it is common to see Brian driving the car frequently in the show.
- While a dog driving the car is itself a surprise element, Brian in this show has its own Twitter account, @dogbackwards, which was revealed in season sixteen “The D in the Apartment 23.” Brian stays active on Twitter with frequent posts and that makes him pretty famous in the town.
- The dog has become a part of the family in the show. But how has he gained so much prominence in the family? Peter finds the dog wandering on roads and takes it with him to stay with them at his home. That is how the dog finds a place for him in the family.
Dogs in real-life have dichromatic vision, they can see only blue and yellow. But the dog in the show sees black and white. This fact is confirmed in season two. - The dog is full of surprise elements. In an attempt to make such a surprising statement, Brian says he hates politics and that is why he doesn’t vote. However, the reason is not revealed but the audience can infer that only humans are allowed to vote which restricts Brain from exercising his franchise.
However, a contradicting scene is shown in season eight in an episode titled “Brian and Stewie” in which Brian says he has voted for John McCain.
It is a bit scary to have a walking, talking, driving, and a dog that has political leanings. But Brain is still adorable for all of these actions.
